West Hove FC vs Eastbourne Borough White 09/09/18
With both teams knowing very little about each other, we set out with a high line to press from the front and put some early pressure on Eastbourne. We soon realised that their 2 boys up front had pace to burn which they used with long balls driven in behind our back four. It wasn’t long before we were 3-0 down, feeling a bit shell shocked!!
We pushed the back four deeper and played Michael as a last man sweeper to deal with their pace and the long ball over the top. This quietened things down and allowed us to play in their half. Just before half time Ollie Taylor scored a cracking goal on the back of some great movement from him up front. He pick the ball up just inside their half went passed a defender and smashed it into the top left hand corner. That got us through to half time 3-1 down, with a belief that there were more goals in this for us.
We rallied the boys at half time and sent them out with a belief that we could get something out of the game. Straight from the second half off, the boys pressed, won 50-50 balls and kept the pressure on, keeping the momentum going from the end of the first half. Ollie then got his second goal with good movement once again, slotting a simple one past the keeper. Ed Stone then scored a great free kick from outside of the box and in no time at all we were 3-3. Good, competitive football from both sides saw efforts going close with both keepers pulling off some great saves
With 10 minutes to, once again Ollie picked the ball up just inside their half on the left wing, went past 2 players and hit a 25 yard thunderbolt straight past their keeper, an individual goal that would grace any game of football making it 4-3. We stayed strong and disciplined till the final whistle to give us a fantastic opening victory. Great character from the whole team with Michael getting MOM, pushed very hard by Ollie!! Well done boys.
